Two friends and myself capsized a canoe in Chadden Lake, Yukon. The ice and snow had just come off the lake. My friends and I went out at around 10:00 pm, because the sun sits high in the sky this time of year.
We capsized in the middle of the lake. Hypothermia started setting in immediately, and we could not have swam to the shore. The canoe capsized broadside and had no floats that we could grab on to. I was sort of waiting for my friends somehow to be calling out for God's help in a time of need, then I shouted out, “Dear Jesus Christ save us.” And within 30 seconds I hear a voice behind me, “We are certified river rescuers we have come to rescue you.”
We were in the water in another lake with a landmass between us, and they did not see us capsize, but the female rescuer heard the splash when we capsized our canoe. They saw us come in earlier in the day, but we canoed into the next lake.
If we had been in the water for maybe a minute more, we would have succumbed to hypothermia.
Our gracious Heavenly Father is faithful.
