Needs

28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Matthew 6:28-34

How many of us have been in this little family’s situation? We have a need, yet there’s not quite enough money in the bank to cover that need. The Word teaches us that “your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things,” so all we have to do is to place it into His hands and trust that we will receive exactly what we need.

As you read this testimony, think of the needs that you have and then place them into the hands of the Almighty. You might be surprised at how willing He is to answer.

I received a true lesson on these Scriptures this weekend. The Lord proved to me that He will provide all that I have need of! A few months ago I hurt my back and was sent to see a chiropractor. While treating me he kept asking how old my mattress was. I had been given the mattress about five years before and it was secondhand then. My wife and I tried to find a mattress, but we couldn’t afford the one we both liked. We decided to put it into the Lord's hands and just wait.

Just last month I started getting really sick. I had very bad bronchitis and it just wouldn’t go away. Eventually I noticed that I would get better when I was at work, but when I came home it would come back. I narrowed it down to our sofa. Every time I sat on it or even got near it I would start to cough really bad. Eventually I found out that there was a huge mouse nest inside the arm of the sofa. We had gotten rid of the mice but the sofa was a lost cause. We had to throw it away.

For a month we did without and kept looking for anything that we could afford, but every sofa we saw was way outside our budget. Finally, we decided we just had to find something, and we drove to every store we knew of, but the cheapest we could find was still far too expensive. The last store we went to had a really nice sofa that was actually almost within reach. They even had eight colors to choose from and my wife picked out the color she wanted.

Before we bought it, my wife asked the sales lady if they had a clearance section. When we walked into the clearance room there was the same sofa we picked out, in the exact color my wife chose! The price on the sofa was already over half off, but they were running a sale on that day only and dropped the price another 40% of that! We paid almost one fifth the price of the new sofa! The sales lady even said when we walked in, “Huh, I didn’t know we had that in here…”

While she was off to get the paperwork on the sofa started, I noticed a mattress sticking out from behind some other furniture. It was the very same model that my wife and I had picked out months before, also on clearance with 40% off its price tag! Both of them put together was less than buying the cheapest sofa we had found in a month of shopping! Truly our Father knows all we have need of and provides everything we could need!

Now, you understand what I mean? See? It's by faith we do everything. Believe on the Lord. Believe on the Lord for a job. Believe on the Lord to hunt the… give you the wife that you should have. Believe on the Lord to give you the husband you should marry. Believe on the Lord to send you some new furniture. Or, if the—if the barrel goes empty and the cruse gets dry, and there's no food, and the children are hungry, believe on the Lord.
