Comfort

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Psalm 119:105

There's Something About That Voice.

My seven-year-old has been a very fearful child. When he was younger he was even afraid to go down the hall to the bathroom by himself. He would come running to our room at night and tell us he was having a scary dream. He wouldn't play outside by himself. He was afraid of snakes, lions, and being kidnapped.

We don't have a TV and rarely watch videos, but he would come up with these situations in his mind and say that he couldn't get it out of his mind. We do live out in the country and have had some close calls with rattlesnakes, so that just made it worse.

We prayed with him so many times, and told him how to take Jesus with him, and that God's angels were encamped about him. I taught him to sing as he went down the hall. I am so thankful that he has overcome much of this fear, but he is still afraid of the dark.

We have found a very simple solution. One evening, as it was getting dark, my husband told him to go pick up some tools outside. There was no persuading him to go out in the dark.

Then my husband handed him his cellphone with a Message playing. That was all it took! As long as he has that Voice with him, he will go outside after dark to check his animals, bring in wood, etc. Every night we put a message on and he will go to his own room and sleep all night.. I believe that God has allowed him to be that way so he will keep listening to that Voice!
