My husband is a maxi-taxi driver. That is, in our country, a job whereby someone who drives a mini bus, makes a living by carrying passengers to and from, or along a particular route. He makes a living doing this and does it Monday to Saturdays at different time periods.
However on a Saturday, he leaves home between 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. to ensure he has his Quiet Time with the rest of believers around the world. (Quiet Time here started at 8:00 – before the DST change). On Saturdays though, passengers frequently travel the first half of the day, so by the time he actually reaches his route to start to work, things are slowing down, and people aren`t travelling that much from one point to another.
However, he tries to put God first and still does his Quiet Time, trusting that the Lord will provide, which He usually does.
One particular Saturday, though we were having some difficulty paying off our monthly bills, loans, etc., he decided to go out earlier. He decided to go hours before Quiet Time, calculating that when the hour arrived, he would reach a particular junction along his route, and he would stop there and spend some time with the Lord. As the morning wore on, he continued his route.
That morning, he said he stopped on the junction just around where we lived to drop of two passengers, which were the only ones present on his bus. As one of the passengers slid open the door to come out of the bus, the entire door fell out. My husband was in utter disbelief as to how this had happened. As far as he knew, all the screws and bushings and everything were intact for that door to stay in place. How did this disaster happen? Now he would have to stop work and fix that door. On top of all the pending bills and debts he had to pay, here was another cost.
At that very moment something in his heart spoke to him, and he looked at his watch. Could you guess the time, brethren? Yes, it was exactly 8:00 a.m. It was time for his Quiet Time before the Lord.
God loves his children, so much that He helps us to make the time for him even when we are busy. He didn’t want His child to lose out on that special time, when all the believers around the world are before his throne of Grace.
In addition to stopping him in his tracks so he could have his Quiet Time, God allowed the door to fall out in his hometown, so he didn’t have to go and pay for it to be repaired. Some of his friends and villagers around were able to repair it for him in no time at no additional cost, with their own equipment.
In his own words, "… Me, I’m not playing with Quiet Time again. I will try my best to keep it. Girl, when I looked at the time, I understood exactly why that door fell out."
Even I learnt a lesson from that experience, and try to keep my Quiet time. God`s love for us is so strong sometimes it’s frightening. But in the end, it’s for our own good.
Be encouraged believers, Quiet Time is inspired by God, and He wants His children to spend that time with Him.
