Elect

This searching soul saw something in the officer that he wanted, so he got up the nerve to ask, “Are you a Christian?”

He asked the right man.

I was standing quietly in the waiting room of a busy hospital emergency room. My partner was sitting with our charge (prisoner), so I just stood off to the side and perused the room, waiting for our charge to be called.

From the middle of the waiting room a young black male, maybe 20-25 years old, (who was with two other males), left them and walked my way.

It's not uncommon for people to approach me, usually asking legal advice etc., however this man walked up to me and just stuck his hand out. I shook his hand and said, “Hi there, what can I do for you.”

He said in a very quiet solemn voice, “I just wanted to ask you a question.”

I said, “Go ahead.”

He said, “Are you a Christian?”

To say the least, I have to admit it caught me off guard, but I immediately said, “Yes, I sure am. Are you?”

He said he was and we talked a little bit about him, (I believe he said he had come from Nigeria six years ago). We got on the subject of where we attended church and I asked him if he had ever heard of William Branham.

He stated that he had not and I briefly told him that I believed that Brother Branham was Malachi 4 and that he was the messenger /prophet for this day.

He talked about knowing that he was forgiven, yet being so confused because he didn't feel like it some days, and that's why he had come to the hospital. I told him that though God uses doctors, there was only one real cure for what ailed him.

I shared some of the things that came to mind, where Brother Branham speaks on “feelings” and how we just have to take God at his Word, how we must have an Absolute to keep us from getting confused and sidetracked, etc.

To make a long story short, we talked for quite some time and he had this far away look in his eyes, looking at me strangely. He said, “You know what, you are really speaking to my heart.”

I asked him why in the world he would just come over to a policeman and ask him if he was a Christian?

He said, “I don't know, but I just felt I should come and ask you that.”

I gave him my card with my numbers, told him about VGR, (but not sure if he was able to take it all in), and said if he ever wanted to talk he should call me. Then I remembered that I didn't even know his name so I asked him.

He said, “Elect.”

I said, “WHAT did you say?”

He repeated it, “Elect.”

Well, we had another whole conversation about his name, and what it meant.

For some reason this really shook me and I can't get him off my mind. I pray that he calls me back and we can finish our conversation - I believe he really may be “Elect.”
