Rebel forces overtook the strategic, eastern border city of Goma in eastern Congo on Tuesday, home to more than 1 million people and thousands of believers. Brother Mali, VGR office manager in the Capital city of Kinshasa, was able to get through to our librarian in Goma. He responded that he has no reports of believers losing their lives or receiving injuries, but they ask that we go to the Lord Jesus on their behalf.
We’ve heard many shots and bombardments. The soldiers have not attacked citizens, but still we must stay inside to avoid stray bullets.
The rebels took the city this morning. God protected us, and we are all safe. Everyone here is doing well, by His Grace.
Today, the situation is a bit more calm.
VGR Librarian (we did not mention his name for safety reasons)
This is a dangerous time for many parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo, especially the east. There are up to five different armed groups at war with each other, and innocent civilians often get caught in the violence. Tens of thousands of people have fled the fighting, only to return to find their homes pillaged. Congo has over a million believers, far more than any country in the world. We ask that you remember our brothers and sisters in that country as they suffer through this very dangerous situation.
